The top foods that help clear skin

Health and Wellness, Male Grooming & Skincare

When it comes to our skin, we want to have glowing, clear, and healthy skin. This means that we need to take care of it the best that we can. There are many different ways to do this, creams, lotions, and a regular cleaning routine.

All things that any man can make sure that they do.

Sounds easy enough, but what you may not realise is that what you eat can also impact how your skin looks.

Want to know more about taking proper care of your skin by thinking about what you eat? Here are some of the top foods you should eat to help clear your skin.

Foods that contain probiotics

You may not realise it, but your skin (and how clear it looks) can be impacted by the bacteria levels that are found in your gut. If your gut is inflamed, then your skin will likely be too. This means that it is essential to eat foods that will maintain healthy gut levels.

Probiotics are the best thing to try and work into your diet; these will improve the environment within your gut and then, in turn, help your skin to keep clear.

Switch to non-dairy milk

Whilst dairy milk might not cause spots in every person, if you are prone to breakouts or acne, you may want to think about whether or not dairy milk might be causing some of the issues you have.

The best way to find out whether or not this is the case is to switch to non-dairy milk. The good news is that you don’t have to worry about switching out yoghurt and cheese, too; it is only milk that has the link to skin that has spots.

Berries

Berries are not only a delicious food option for you to have in your everyday diet, but they are also good for your skin too. Blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and goji berries are amongst the best to eat regularly. They are packed full of nutrients that your body (and your skin needs), and they are also high in antioxidants too.

Antioxidants are something that you want in your diet as they help reduce the inflammation in your skin and will help clear up any spots that you may have. They also help to minimise the free-radical damage that can occur in your skin, which means that it does wonders for your skin.

Leafy greens

A lot can be said for having leafy greens in your diet (although they might not always be something you reach for when you are thinking about what to eat. Kale, spinach, broccoli and brussels sprouts provide your body with vitamin A, which will help combat dry and flaky skin (often something that can happen if you suffer from skin conditions such as acne).

They also contain vitamin C, which can help with sun damage and vitamin E, which reduces inflammation in the skin. If this wasn’t enough to tempt you to have more leafy greens in your diet, they also contain folate, which will encourage the DNA within your skin to repair itself, ideal if you have spots and other skin blemishes that need to be reduced.

Turmeric

Turmeric is another way to reduce inflammation and soothe sore and irritated skin. Not only is turmeric good for your skin, but this spice can also help to boost your immune system and support the proper function within your brain.

eggs and leafy greens to clear skin

Eggs

Have you ever heard of egg face masks? If you have, you will already know that they are a big thing in Korea.
Egg yolk is not only good because it soothes the skin, but it can also nourish it too. This is all thanks to the vitamin A that it contains, which is a huge helping hand for skin repair.

Brazil nuts

Nuts are often considered a healthy addition to any diet, mainly because they contain healthy fats. However, the way that they can help can go much deeper than this. This is particularly true for brazil nuts, which include an antioxidant called selenium.

Selenium is so essential if you are concerned about the health and look of your skin because it is known to decrease any acne that you may already have and reduce the risk that it may come back in the future.

Green tea

Green tea is not a new thing when it comes to maintaining a healthy diet, and this is for a good reason. Green tea is known to reduce inflammation within your body, which is excellent if you struggle with skin issues.

Not only this, but green tea can also reduce the damage to your DNA from everyday life and protect you from any sun damage that can occur by being out in the sunshine. The great thing about green tea is that whilst you can drink it if you want to improve your skin condition, you can also find it in a variety of skincare options.

Fish

A lot can be said about having fish in your diet. The main reason for this is that oily fish (such as salmon and mackerel) have lots of Omega fatty acids. These are great for helping if you have an uneven complexion, as they give your skin the chance to retain its natural oil barrier.

Not only this, but many fish that you may have for dinner contains selenium, which we have already discovered is a great way to reduce any acne that you may have on your skin.

Clear skin through food

As you can see, food has much more impact on your skin than you may realise. So, if you want to make sure that you have healthy looking skin that is as free from spots as possible, then maybe you need to switch up your diet. You never know what you may achieve by making small changes and if you add a good quality skin care routine with great products, then the difference can be huge.
